Walking to Everest base camp to honour Father’s memory
Wayne Austin has just returned from a 12 day, 130km round trip hike from Lukla in Nepal to Everest Base Camp. This tough trip included 2300M of ascent from 2860M at the tiny and notoriously dangerous airport to well over 5000M and carried with it the danger of serious altitude sickness, but also the reward of the world’s most spectacular views.
The idea of the trip came following the death of Wayne’s Father Anthony who was cared for in the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Anthony had a proud military history and Wayne carried his soldier’s beret with him and wore it proudly in his memory on remembrance Sunday 2019. A great tribute to a much loved Father.
In the process Wayne raised £2500 in sponsorship for the CCHF. Thank you to Wayne and all those who supported this tremendous effort.
