As spring turns into early summer, the garden at the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit (CCHU), Stoke Mandeville Hospital, is already blooming.
The garden – which is behind the treatment unit – was fully restored a few years ago with funding from our charity and with hands-on help from expert volunteers, the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust estates staff and private companies.
A pleasant environment can be important in having a really positive impact on people undergoing treatment for cancer and similar illnesses and, as you can see from these photos kindly supplied by volunteer gardener Frances Wrigley, this once under-used and forgotten space has become a wonderfully green and tranquil area for both patients and clinical staff to relax in and enjoy.
