McCormick rounds off charity partnership with big donation

A visit from a team of McCormick's Haddenham employees to Cancer Care and Haematology Unit, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, this month has brought to an end a successful charity partnership with CCHF.
McCormick's Alison Bowen presented a cheque for £2,600 to a delighted group of CCHF trustees and clinical staff in the Unit's sunny garden. This made a total donation for the year of £4,726.
Global flavour solutions business, McCormick UK Ltd, whose EMEA headquarters have been in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, for over 20 years, employ around 450 people across their offices and factory.
Employees selected CCHF as their charity partner for 2024 and have been raising money through local safety awareness initiatives at the factory. For every health and safety observation raised £1 is donated and this is usually matched by the company. McCormick's believes this helps to keep the factory's working environment safe as well as supporting the local community.
Dr Ann Watson, Chair of CCHF, commented: “The charity and the staff at CCHU are thrilled to have received the support of such an important global business and the substantial amount raised is really important and will allow us to continue to support the excellent cancer and haematology treatment facilities across Buckinghamshire.”
Alison Bowen explained: "Partnering with the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund has been a deeply meaningful experience for all of us at McCormick Haddenham. Our Safety Observation donation initiative reflects our belief that looking out for one another – whether in the workplace or in the wider community – is fundamental to who we are.
“We’re incredibly proud to have supported such a vital local charity and to know that our efforts will help make a real difference to the lives of people receiving care in Buckinghamshire. It was a privilege to visit the Unit and see first-hand the impact our donation will have,” said Alison.
McCormick's began life in America in 1889 when Willoughby M McCormick, and three young workers, started a business in a Baltimore cellar selling their flavours and extracts door-to-door. Today the global business employs 14,000 and earns more than $6 billion in annual sales across 170 countries and territories. They own many famous kitchen store cupboard brands including Schwartz in the UK, best known for their wide range of herbs, spices and seasonings.
The Cancer Care and Haematology Fund is a charity set up to help those diagnosed with cancer and haematology based diseases and who are being treated by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Through public fundraising a specialist unit – the CCHU - was built and opened in January 2001 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. The charity continues to provide financial support for projects that benefit patients cared for at the CCHU, the Sunrise Unit in Wycombe Hospital and in community settings across Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties.
