Accountancy firm sets a virtual challenge

A leading firm of chartered accountants are “going the extra mile” for the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund (CCHF).

Hillier Hopkins LLP, who have offices in Watford, Milton Keynes and London, are organising a virtual challenge in which their employees will cover 603 miles – the distance from Land's End to John 0'Groats – over a two week period.

Leena Tailor, an audit manager at Hillier Hopkins, explained: “Someone who I work very closely with is currently undergoing cancer treatment. We wanted to do something to show our support for him and he mentioned CCHF as a charity that he would very much like to support.”

Leena added: “The idea is a virtual Land’s End to John O’Groats (as the crow flies) challenge. The team are being set the task of covering 603 miles by walking, running, swimming or cycling over a two week period (11 March – 24 March inclusive).

This will be collated by syncing various fitness apps onto a virtual challenge online platform. It will finish with a two day “bikeathon” in our Watford offices where we will be taking shifts to complete the challenge. We are lucky in that we have some amazing colleagues and people from all three offices and across all departments have expressed their interest in taking part!”

Hillier Hopkins began life in 1933 as Lewis Hillier & Co, accountants, in Luton, before founder John Hillier was joined by Len Hopkins and the firm became Hillier Hopkins & Co.

Over its 90 year history Hillier Hopkins has trained many thousands of individuals and businesses, and the company has a long history of supporting charitable causes and the local community.

Mike Snell, CCHF Trustee, commented: “This is an amazing initiative by the people at Hillier Hopkins for which the charity is incredibly grateful. Clearly the company has strong community values which are shared by their very generous employees. Good luck to everyone taking part!”

Hillier Hopkins have launched an online fundraising page and employees and friends have already committed more than £1,000!

Healthcare charity CCHF, was set up in 1990 to raise money to help patients diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders by funding the construction of a specialist unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, near Aylesbury. The Unit was opened in 2001 and today the charity continues to provide financial support for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust's treatment facilities at both Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the Sunrise Unit at Wycombe Hospital.
