Party-time as CCHF receives £18,000 donation!

Cancer Care and Haematology Fund (CCHF) supporters put on their party clothes at the weekend for a gala dinner to celebrate another spectacular fundraising year by the charity's ambassadors Alvin and Yvonne.

Alvin Printwhistle, who is best known locally for Alvin - the Ultimate Elvis Tribute, and his wife Yvonne raise money every year through their Cancer Haematology and Related Medicine (CHARM) charity. Their fundraising supports the work of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust treatment centres across the county.

At the end of Saturday evening (5 October) a cheque for nearly £18,000 was presented to CCHF by Alvin and Yvonne. The couple's motivation for supporting CCHF was Alvin's own diagnosis of lymphoma in 2015 and his successful treatment at the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit (CCHU) at Stoke Mandeville. Alvin also announced on Saturday that since that time he and Yvonne have raised more than £90,000 for CCHF through a wide range of special events and gigs, including the CHARM Gala Dinner.

The presentation was made to CCHF's Trustees Dr Ann Watson and haematology consultant Dr Helen Eagleton at Hazlemere Golf Club, near High Wycombe. Guests included fundraisers, supporters, friends and representatives from CCHF and CCHU and they were entertained by the voices and music of Signature.

CCHF was set up in 1990 to raise money to help patients diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders by funding the construction of a specialist unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, near Aylesbury. The Cancer Care and Haematology Unit was subsequently opened by the Princess Royal in 2001. Today the charity continues to provide financial support for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust's treatment facilities at both the CCHU and the Sunrise Unit at Wycombe Hospital and other healthcare settings.
