Time for tea – for our super volunteers!

Trustees from the CCHF recently had the pleasure of joining volunteers from the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit and the Sunrise Unit, past and present, for a magnificent cream tea at Chiltern Forest Golf Club in the Aylesbury Vale.
This loyal group have long provided extra support and care in both units at Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe Hospitals - supporting the nurses, providing refreshments and a sympathetic ear, running art and craft groups, fundraising, and providing complementary therapies, such as massage, that would not otherwise be available.
Covid caused prolonged disruption to their service as attendance in the hospitals was kept to a minimum and it is a joy to have them return to add their magic to the already excellent care of the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust staff.
Many of the longest serving volunteers, some going back to before the opening of the CCHU at Stoke Mandeville in 1999, took the Covid break as a natural opportunity to step down and everyone was delighted to welcome them back for a proper thank you and to meet the latest volunteers who are now regularly volunteering.
