School votes to support cchf

Cancer Care and Haematology Fund have been chosen as a charity partner by Magdalen College School, Oxford, for 2023/2024. Magdalen is one of the UK's leading independent schools.
The school's student body voted for CCHF in a recent election to choose charities to support.
It is intended that the relationship will help raise awareness of the charity and its work among pupils, as well as their helping to raise money for CCHF.
Andrew Jarvis, Head of Physical Education and Charities Coordinator at the school, explained: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund for the year 2023-2024. This collaboration reflects our school's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. We believe that by supporting CCHF we can help raise awareness, contribute to improved care, and treatment, ultimately helping those in need”.
Dr Ann Watson, Chair of CCHF, commented: “It was a wonderful surprise to hear that the pupils had chosen to support our charity and we feel very privileged that young people consider what we do is important and relevant. We are looking forward to the coming year and trust that the relationship is rewarding for both the school and ourselves.”
Magdalen College School's history dates from 1480 when William Waynflette, Bishop of Winchester and Lord Chancellor of England, endowed two grammar schools, which were intended to supply a succession of educated students who would then continue their studies at nearby Magdalen College, Oxford. Today the school has a student body of nearly 900 across junior, senior and Sixth Form establishments.
Notable alumni – known as Old Waynfletes (OWs) after the founder – include Sir Thomas More, Henry VIII’s chancellor and Roman Catholic martyr; Cardinal Wolsey, Lord Chancellor to King Henry VIII; William Tyndale, translator of the Bible into English; Ivor Novello, composer of musicals and stage and screen actor; Tim Hunt, Nobel prize recipient and scientist; Sam Mendes, Oscar-winning film and stage director.
The Cancer Care and Haematology Fund is a charity set up to help those diagnosed with cancer and haematology based diseases and who are being treated by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Through public fundraising a specialist unit – the CCHU - was built and opened in January 2001 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. The charity continues to provide financial support for projects that benefit patients cared for at the CCHU, the Sunrise Unit in Wycombe Hospital and in community settings across Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties.
