More support for cancer treatment

The Cancer Care and Haematology Fund (CCHF) has funded the purchase of two more folding beds for use by relatives caring for cancer patients during their final hours at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Our charity funded the first two beds in 2023 and they instantly became a valuable addition to overall patient care.

Prior to the provision of the special beds relatives of patients who were dying in hospital had to make do with sleeping in chairs. Staff provided pillows and blankets but it could still be an uncomfortable time while they accompanied their relatives in the final hours (sometimes for days or weeks). All four beds are being used across Stoke Mandeville on all wards.

CCHF has also purchased of a new table and four comfortable chairs for a nurses' kitchen/relaxation area at the Sunrise Unit, Wycombe Hospital. It follows the generous donation of £250 from a grateful patient and, according to nursing staff, is already making a huge difference during their much-needed breaks!

The Cancer Care and Haematology Fund is a charity set up to help those suffering from cancer and haematology related diseases in Buckinghamshire. Through public fundraising a specialist unit – the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit (CCHU) - was built and opened in January 2001 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The charity continues to provide financial support for projects and services which benefit patients being treated by Buckinghashire Healthcare NHS Trust at the CCHU, the Sunrise Unit at High Wycombe and in community settings across Buckinghamshire and adjacent counties.
