£5,000 boost from CCHU supporters
By CCHF in CCHU fundraiser donation

A fundraising initiative started nearly a year ago has resulted in a huge win for the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund, with a total of £5,180 being donated to the charity.
The initiative was the brainchild of Paula Tompkins and Joanna Swinton-Bland, who were both treated for cancer at Stoke Mandeville's Cancer Care and Haematology Unit (CCHU). They felt they wanted to support the hard-working cancer and haematology service that had helped them during difficult times.
Paula and Joanna - supported by their families and friends - held a series of fundraising events in and around Haddenham throughout 2024, including a cake sale, table-top sale, bucket collection and a very successful bingo evening.
Paula, who lives in Haddenham, was able to visit the CCHU last week to hand over the astonishing amount raised to the chair of the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund (CCHF), Dr Ann Watson.
Dr Watson said: “This has been a remarkable initiative by Paula, more so because she was still undergoing treatment. The charity is really grateful to everyone involved in raising this amount of money, as well as to the wonderful people who have donated so generously. Every penny will continue to support those who have to undergo treatment by the cancer and haematology service in Buckinghamshire.”
CCHF supports the cancer and haematology service provided by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and raised the £1 million necessary to build the ground-breaking CCHU in 2001. The Unit provides a wide range of outpatient and day-case treatments for patients with cancer, including blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma, and also cares for patients with non-malignant blood problems such as clotting and bleeding disorders, various forms of anaemia, immune problems and haemoglobinopathies. CCHF also supports the NHS treatment service at the Sunrise Unit at Wycombe Hospital, as well as in community settings across Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties. Click here to see what we do.
